Unbelievable that you climb out of your burning cockpit onto your wings and try to keep the fire away from your gunner. This is exactly what pilot Alan McLeod of the Royal Flying Corps Canada did on March 17th, 1918 in the B.5773. His gunner Arthur Hammond was able to shoot down three of the attacking Dr.I’s. In the absence of parachutes, what else can you do?
The Koolhoven FK.8 was developed as a reconnaissance aircraft and played a big role in 1917-1918.
High quality poster. Reproduction of original handmade painting by Thijs Postma.
