The scene painted by Thijs Postma shows the F-5, a Fokker C.14w, shooting down a Messerschmitt Bf109. The first kill of an enemy aircraft by the MLD (Dutch Naval Air Service), on May 10th, 1940.
Initially the Dutch thought the Germans violated their airspace on their way to the United Kingdom. However, it was a diversionary tactic and they came back in a wide circle.
The Fokker C.14w was a reconnaissance / trainer.
