The PH-AIP or the Pelikaan is on its way to Batavia (Indonesia) to deliver Christmas mail. Originally the Fokker F.20 ‘Zilvermeeuw' (Herring gull) would make the accelerated mail flight on December 18th, 1933.

However, one engine gave troubles during the warm up. So KLM-director Albert Plesman decided that the Pelikaan should make the flight. The Pelikaan is a Fokker F.XVIII or F.18.

It arrived on December 22nd at Batavia (Indonesia). The captain on the flight was Iwan Smirnoff. It returned on December 26th and arrived back at Schiphol on December 30th, 1933.
