One of German jet airplanes goes airborne towards to end of the Second World War.
The Heinkel He 162 Salamander (Volksjäger or Peoples Fighter) first flew in December 1944. Due to the high fuel usage, it could only fly 30 minutes at sea level. Towards the end of the war a large number of He 162s were ready but no operational flights were made.
This Heinkel He 162 A-2 with serial 120227 is preserved and visible at the RAF Museum in London.
High quality poster. Reproduction of original handmade painting by Thijs Postma.
